Trezor is a hardware wallet that stores your cryptocurrency offline, away from the internet, making it nearly impossible for hackers to access. It’s widely used by both beginners and seasoned crypto holders who value security and simplicity. Here’s how to set up your Trezor securely.
To get started, go to the official setup page at Trezor.io/start. From here, you'll be directed to download Trezor Suite, the official app that helps you manage your crypto.
Trezor Suite is available on both desktop and web. The desktop version (available for Windows, macOS, and Linux) is recommended for optimal security. Download, install, and open Trezor Suite to proceed with the setup.
Once Trezor Suite is open, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the USB cable provided. The app will guide you through setting up your device and installing firmware if necessary. Follow the prompts on both your device screen and in Trezor Suite.
After setup, choose “Create a new wallet.” Trezor will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed—this is the backup for your wallet. Write down your recovery seed on paper (never store it digitally!) and keep it safe. This seed is your only way to recover funds if your Trezor is lost or damaged.
You’ll set a PIN code to unlock your Trezor each time you use it. For added security, consider setting up an optional passphrase. This is an additional layer of security on top of your recovery seed—ideal if you’re storing large amounts or need added protection.
Once your wallet is secure, start adding your cryptocurrency accounts. In Trezor Suite, go to “Accounts” to add and view supported cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and many more.
With Trezor Suite, you can easily send and receive crypto. Always verify transaction details directly on your Trezor device before confirming, so you can be sure funds are going to the right place.
